The Riverview House Restoration Project restored a historical home which was built in 1847. It first began as a cabin and later operated as the “Riverside Hotel”. The building is located in the Village of Elsah Historic District and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. Elsah is situated on the Great River Road approximately ten miles north of Alton, Illinois. The Riverview House experienced damage from fire in July of 1999 and extensive flood damage in 1973 and 1993. Principia College donated the Riverview House to Great Rivers Land Trust in March of 2000 in hopes that Great Rivers Land Trust could restore this historical treasure. The house has since been successfully restored.
