Accomplishments 2001
Formed a formal one-year Memorandum of Agreement with Great Rivers Habitat Alliance. With this agreement, the two organizations are able to efficiently work on land preservation issues in the State of Missouri.
Continued our Community Assistance Project by assisting in grant writing for community park projects and recreational projects. Assisted a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation center apply for a grant for their cage building project. Also, assisted Quarry-Elsah-Mississippi Fire District and Lewis and Clark Community College in acquiring a parcel of land for their new fire training facility.
Initiated an Organizational Expansion Project to the state of Missouri. With this project, GRLT aims to protect flood plain acres in St. Charles County, MO.
Initiated the 10-year Piasa Creek Watershed Project. This is a partnering project with Illinois-American Water Company, which seeks to reduce sediment flow to the Mississippi River.
Initiated partnering projects for wetland mitigation sites along the Piasa Creek with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the City of Alton. The project will assist these governmental entities in providing land for wetland mitigation and thus provide wetland habitat on an ecosystem approach.
Installed monument signs at the Hutchinson Bird Sanctuary - East and West.
Completed a land acquisition and conservation easement transaction with Chautauqua, which preserves 16 acres next to the 25-acre Chautauqua Hill Prairie that is owned by GRLT.
Completed design documents for renovation of the Riverview House, which will be renovated in Spring of 2002.
Completed Stewardship Review of each conservation easement held by GRLT.
